Staying happy and healthy is an important goal for all of us. MMC is proud to offer a series of
educational programs designed to give you information about healthy living and about making lifestyle
choices to improve your health. In addition to educational programs, a number of support groups meet
at MMC. These groups provide specialized topics for interested people.
Celiac and Gluten Intolerance Support Group
Meets the 2nd Tuesday 6PM to 7PM - November, January and March.

Bay Area Heart Club, 685-5380.
The Bay Area Heart Club provides education and support to assist people to maintain their
cardiovascular fitness. This monthly group is open to heart patients, members of their family and
anyone interested in a heart healthy lifestyle.
Diabetes Education.
Diabetes patients and those who assist in the care of people with diabetes learn the basic concepts and
procedures of proper diabetic care and how to adjust their lifestyle to help prevent complications of the
disease. Diabetes education is available on an inpatient or outpatient basis. Anyone is welcome to
become a part of Living with Diabetes, a support group for interested people. Outpatients should
register at the Registration Desk at the Registration/Emergency Entrance.
Freedom from Smoking.
By most estimates, quitting smoking is the single most important thing people can do to improve their
health. Quitting on your own is very difficult however. We can help. Freedom from Smoking is a seven-
week program developed by the American Lung Association to help smokers to stop with a step-by-
step process of changing their behavior. A free orientation session is held as the first part of this series
to let participants get a feel for the program.
Living with Arthritis.
A monthly support group - each meeting features discussion and speakers on medical and theraputic
topics related to arthritis. Anyone whose life is affected by arthritis is welcome to attend.
Living with Diabetes.
This support group provides an opportunity for people to learn more about living with diabetes and to
share their experiences and feelings with others. This group is designed for people who have diabetes
and members of their families.
Reach to Recovery.
Volunteers who have experienced a mastectomy are specially trained to provide emotional support and
education for mastectomy patients. A physician's referral is required for this free program.
