Behavioral Health Services staff understand that every person is unique and that
different people have different treatment needs. We offer several cost-effective programs
of varying intensity.
In addition to the comprehensive Behavioral Health Services staff, the full medical
diagnostic and treatment resources of Memorial Medical Center are readily available for
patients.
Patients can be referred to Behavioral Health Services of Memorial Medical Center
through self referral or by family members, physicians, social service agencies or other
concerned persons. All referrals and information requests are strictly confidential.
Chemical dependency and mental illness not only affects the individual, but those
around them as well. We believe families are highly influential. We encourage their
participation during the patient’s treatment process. We help families and significant
others learn how their behavior aids dependency, how to break this cycle and how to
develop methods for healthier relationships.
Insurance coverage for evaluation and treatment varies, however, Wisconsin law
requires insurance companies to provide some coverage for both inpatient and
outpatient treatment. Treatment costs may be covered by private insurance, CHAMPUS,
Medicare, Medicaid Title 18, Title 19 or 51.42 funding. We will be happy to answer any
questions you have regarding treatment costs and to assist you in checking your level of
coverage. If you are not covered by medical insurance or any other health care
reimbursement, we can arrange a monthly payment schedule.
Acute Care Program
For patients on legal holds or voluntary patients who require our maximum nurse-to-
patient ratio, and who would benefit from an environment that emphasizes safety,
supervision and structure, we provide a secure acute care unit.
Patients in the acute care unit are generally suffering from psychosis, depression
with psychotic symptoms and/or suicidal thoughts, mania, alcohol/drug withdrawal or
other disorders for which management of the acute phase requires the safety and
structure of a secure unit. Medications will usually be prescribed for those conditions.

The program consists of an evaluation, supervision and intensive interventions,
allowing them to progress to a less intensive level of care. The patient’s psychiatrist
leads the interdisciplinary treatment team in formulating goals for the hospitalization,
planning the approach of the caregivers and developing a discharge plan. Frequent
contacts with physicians allow the team to address all aspects of the patient’s care from
admission through discharge. The team provides a consistent approach to meeting the
needs of patients and families. The full range of therapeutic programs is utilized to
minimize symptoms and lead the patient toward wellness.
A physician certified in AODA, provides medical supervision for detoxification
patients. Medical detoxification is the process of safe withdrawal from alcohol or other
chemicals. Following a complete physical, an individualized detoxification program is
developed to assure that each patient experiences the least possible discomfort during
withdrawal.
Inpatient Unit Program
The inpatient unit program treats voluntary patients who suffer from a wide variety of
issues including affective disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders and personality disorders.
For inpatients, treatment is highly structured and focuses on enhancing a patient’s
strengths, developing better coping strategies and improving of distressing symptoms.
The overall goal of the program is to help the patient return to productive living.
Day Treatment Programs
MMC Behavioral Health Services offers day treatment programs for alcohol & drug
abuse and mental health. These intensive programs designed to provide individuals
with outpatient care while allowing them to maintain their work, home and family
routines.
The alcohol and drug abuse day treatment program meets during the day, evenings
and on weekends. The minimum number of hours of direct treatment is ten hours per
week for a period of six weeks. Acceptance into the program is contingent on pre-
admission data and a physician’s medical assessment. Treatment modalities include
both individual and group therapy, specialty groups and educational lectures &
discussions.
The mental health day treatment program is a daytime alternative for those who need
more intensive contact than traditional outpatient treatment. It is also appropriate for
those persons who need therapeutic intervention during the transition from inpatient
treatment to home. The program’s structure, intensive therapy and group support are
designed to benefit those persons whose emotional difficulties interfere with
independent functioning.

sessions to help children, adolescents and adults to learn how to deal with a wide range
